This pipeline was supposed to be wasted when the project of NELHA failed after the experimental stage. Koyo saw the opportunity of the pipeline because Koyo was also in the business of harvesting deep ocean water from the pacific, 600 feet below. While the opportunity was there, Koyo was quick to invest in an exclusive bottled water processing plant in NELHA. The lease was made by Koyo with NELHA. On the first year of the production, Koyo incurred $20 million in costs (2002) but the profits were already in the roll to be reported.

2. Savers Holdings Ltd. - This company is based in Korea where its processing plant is in NELHA. This company leases the facility of NELHA to produce food and beverage products. These products include the bottled water, bottled by its state of the art bottling plant, which is due to be completed in the spring of 2008.

3. DSH International, Inc. - This company mainly supplies deep sea water harvested 2000 feet into the ocean. The container ships that this company handles carry the harvested desalinized sea water to be delivered to the other countries that require the product. Instead of leasing the facilities in NELHA, this company utilizes container ships that hold 20,000 liters of water per container. The water contained within the container will be delivered internationally.

Although there may be some limitations to drinking Deep Ocean water like allergies and other complications that result from the dosages intake from the minerals found within the deep ocean drinking water. In most cases, there had not been a recorded complication from drinking the deep ocean water. Moreover, this drinking water is more on the healthy side rather than just plain beverage. This has been a proven technology and was approved by the Food and Drugs Administration.

The very young like the new born baby should not drink the water since the water’s contents may probably harm the baby in some ways.

Commonly, the ocean water is observed in the shores where people bathe under the heat of the sun or during night time. The alternative use of the ocean water have not been thought to be used for drinking until it was discovered that deep ocean water can be used for commercial uses. It only needs to be desalinized to have a significant use for the industry. Currently, there have been discovered uses of the deep ocean waters:
1. Cooling systems: There have been some ideas about using the deep sea water as a cooling agent for buildings. This will ultimately save a company an annual cooling expense of $750,000. The cooling water is derived from a cooling well drilled into the ground near the shore. The drilling will require a 16 inch in diameter hole to be drilled through the ground passing the fresh water aquifer.

The water will have to be at least 40 degrees Fahrenheit to have a cooling effect on the building. The exchange will produce warm sea water that will be then used for the aquatic tanks for sea creatures. This will not only be efficient in terms of the utilization of water but also efficient in cutting expensive costs for the companies.

2. Alternative to the drinking water: There have been some issues regarding the limited supply of fresh water. The issues are that there is the rapid depletion of fresh water which is also used as potable water (air conditioning). There will be a shortage of fresh water if rapid used is continued for a very long period of time.

As an alternative, drawing out water from the deep recesses of the ocean is a project supported by Hawaii-the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA), which was originally provided to research about the energy derived from mixing cold and warm water to produce steam. This alternative is a little expensive compared to the fresh water, but soon, it will be as cheap as the water tapped from the main water line. For the meanwhile, the water is bottled to be sold as health water, and some other various uses of desalinated and ocean water.

3. Disaster relief projects: There are some instances where there are areas affected by some form of disaster like flood and typhoon. These situations may require water to be provided for survival of the victims. Since fresh water is a very scarce resource, the government may result in the retrieval of the desalinized water to be given to the victims of the disasters.

4. Water replenishment in drought affected areas: In drought affected areas, water is either depleted or to be retrieved from a very distant area. The only way that these areas need to be replenished with water is to have the water delivered to them in containers. These delivered reliefs can be the waters tapped from the deep ocean, which contains a lot of minerals to supplement the bodily needs of the affected.

5. Medicinal: Medicinal purposes have been sought after the deep ocean waters. One of the medicinal achievements that were retrieved from the deep ocean water is the daily dietary supplements. The deep ocean water is rich in nutrients like trace minerals. These minerals are needed by the body daily to function properly. Harvesting these minerals will entail the extraction of the minerals from the deep ocean water. Since there are some minerals that are mostly abundant in the ocean, selling these supplements will mean low prices for the maximum affordability.

6. Aqua culture: In aqua culture, there are some sea creatures like shrimp culture that thrive when they are fed with the fresh ocean water. This ocean water can be harvested to benefit the raising of these sea creatures, which are vital for the quality of the product. Acquisition of this water will also mean more expensive sea products but the products raised in this mineral rich water are healthy, clean, and will produce more yield.

The following will be the minerals found within the deep ocean drinking water.

Generally, the benefits found within the minerals of the deep sea water have been known to regulate blood pressure. The drinking of the deep ocean water will not only supply the body with water and minerals but will also benefit the body with good heath through the regulation of blood pressure.
1. Magnesium - Magnesium is used as one of the trace minerals as a dietary supplement. It helps in the formation of the bones and teeth, and in the assistance in the absorption of calcium and potassium. Magnesium helps in the formation of the bones because it comes bundled with calcium and potassium, which are essential minerals for normal growth of the body. Additionally, magnesium is also needed for cellular metabolism and the production energy by enzyme activity. Moreover, it also helps in the regulation of the blood pressure.

As a mineral within the deep ocean drinking water, it is enough to supply the body with the requirements of normal daily activity. Also, as bundle with calcium with the water, Magnesium can act as a support for bone and teeth formation.

2. Calcium - Calcium is a mineral that is most commonly found within the body’s bones. It is the mineral responsible for the grown of the teeth and the bones. Working directly with magnesium, calcium can effectively shape the growth of the bones and teeth.

In opposition, the lack of calcium will lead to the weakness of the bones, especially the inner bone area where it is responsible for handling shocks received from falling or from daily stress in moving. The bones will be easily fractured if the tolerance of the weak bone is in excess. And, the teeth will be more prone to decay and breakage.

3. Potassium - Potassium is most commonly associated with peanuts as it is very abundant with the peanuts. Potassium is the third most abundant mineral contained within the body. Potassium aids the body in the regulation of blood pressure and the balancing of fluids within the cells. It also assists the muscle in contraction and the storage of energy within it.

4. Sodium - Sodium is also known as salt, although this may not have an adverse salty taste because of its concentration with the desalinized water. This salt is not yet in compound with chlorine, where the chlorine alone is detrimental to the body. As a very essential mineral for the bodily functions, an intake of at least 100mg per day is needed for the body to properly function. It aid in the proper distribution of water, conductivity of the nerves in the electrical functions, maintenance of the proper flow of the blood, maintenance of the blood pressure, and the anticoagulation of the blood which will prevent stroke from happening.

5. Iron - Iron is one of the most essential minerals need by the body for proper daily function. It serves as an essential mineral in the production of hemoglobin in the red blood cells and myoglobin in the muscles. This is the mineral responsible for the red blood cells’ distinct reddish color. Once the blood is exposed to the open air, it will instantly turn into red due to the reaction of the iron with the oxygen.

Iron is the most deficient with women because of pregnancy, menstruation and bleeding.

6. Copper - Copper is one of the most abundant mineral in the body because it is approximately 100-500mg in content. It is a very important mineral because the body needs the copper to incorporate the iron into the red blood cell and in the aid in the enzyme activities. The body only needs a little amount every day, since copper rich foods are not commonly consumed. Although the body need a little, there have been some instances that copper deficiencies have been reported from starvation and anorexia. These situations are rare but they did happen.

7. Zinc - Zinc is a mineral the human body cannot make. To support the need of the body of zinc, a daily intake of will be needed. Zinc serves as the formation of the cellular structure and the production of the DNA, which is very important in the stages of pregnancy, where it will prevent the delayed development of the fetus.

8. Manganese - The average adult is consisted of 10-20mg of Manganese, which act as a cofactor in the enzyme activities. It is also essential in the mitochondria’s activities and in the coating of the cells against viral infections.

9. Chromium - Chromium is a very important element mainly in the assistance of the production of insulin. It does not act alone on itself and it needs the help of various amino acids and nicotinic acids. It activates the insulin which metabolizes the sugars to provide the body with energy. This is another mineral which also helps in the weight loss efforts because of the consumption of the sugars.

10. Phosphorous- Phosphorous is the second most abundant mineral in the body. It is used practically in every cell within the body. Its abundance is mostly concentrated 85% within the bone and the other 15% are mostly within the blood and the other part of the body like the brain. For the brain to perform a critical function, it will need phosphorous flown through the blood. Other than helping the body perform critical functions, it is also responsible in the structuring of the bones and the teeth, making them strong.

Everything in this world that is made by man had gone through complications. Even the discovery of the simplest wheel in the earliest times of man’s evolution had gone the most difficult of thinking. Retrieving the water from the deep ocean is as easy as counting from one to three but it includes a lot of processes that has to be followed. Following these processes involves the use of the complicated machines like motors, ships, and factories. These processes have to be in proper order to successfully harvest the precious resource. On the other hand when the processes are done in a manner just to get the water, not observing the possible threat to the natural environment, it will then become the exploitation of the natural resources where there is the disregard of health of the environment being explored.

Not all processes continue the count from two to three but sometime, it will skip a step just to complete the required cycle for the moment. Harvesting the deep ocean water will start with the expedition of a container ship to the area where the ocean will reach 2000 feet or 667 meters deep. The ocean will have to be where the “Great Conveyor Belts” of earth has to sit. The great conveyor belt of the ocean contains all the required nutrients that will have to be advertised like how it helps the body with the nutrients that it has, and its purity in age. Another research prior to the harvesting of the deep ocean water will have been required to find the conveyor belt that hosts the deep ocean water. In the situation of Hawaii, the deep sea water was found because of the initial research that was done to retrieve the cold water from the deep to be mixed with the warmer water on the surface for them to produce steam, powering the turbines of the power plant. Since this research failed, everything invested on the research would have been wasted but the persistence and resourcefulness of the Hawaii State made them discover a new resource to tap into. Prior to the harvesting will be the research because any deep ocean water cannot just be harvested anywhere.

A ship of any kind will not do for the storage of the deep sea water. Instead a ship designed to contain the deep sea water will be required to finish the harvesting. This ship will contain containers designed to hold salt water. These containers can either have a semi permeable membrane inside to desalinate the ocean water or just contain the salt water. Some container ships already have the desalination process with it to reduce the time that is put into harvesting. The companies made the process of harvesting a multitasking event. By the time that the water arrives at the factory, it would then only require the inspection, purification, additions, and bottling.

The ship will not only contain the containers but also the equipment designed to pump water into the ship in great amounts. Also, a pipe that will reach 2000 to 3000 feet into the ocean will also be required to complete the pumping. The companies will really have to get what they are trying to tell their consumers. Upon reaching the depth where there is about 10-20 feet of distance between the end of the pipe and the ocean floor, the pumps will start filling the containers with the deep ocean water.

By the time that the ship arrives to transfer the contents to the factory, an inspection of the contents will be required. The inspection will ensure that the deep sea water that is retrieved is the water that is the required quality that the company wants. After the inspection will be the purification. Further purification will be the filtration of the water from any other substances that cannot be drank. Upon the filtration process, the water will have to undergo several stages of filtration, through filters.

Bottling the water will involve the similar processes of bottling purified drinking water. The conveyor belts of the factory will carry the empty bottles to the filling station. The filling station has the filling valves that will enter the mouth of the bottle. These stations have the measuring capability in filling the bottles with water. The next step will be capping the bottles with the brand of the company, and finally, the labeling of the bottles with the desired brand will finish the process of bottling the deep ocean drinking water.

Since the time of the advancements of man, all of the resources or the natural environment that the Earth has to offer us are depleting in great numbers. The human has to be resourceful to continue to provide himself. The fresh water around the world is quickly depleting. To solve this problem, sourcing fresh water from some other places will be quite difficult. To overcome the difficulty in looking for a fresh water source, the only way is to look for an area where water is the most abundant. The most abundant source of water is the ocean where covers as 75% of the earth’s surface. But now, there is a problem of how to desalinize the water. There are several ways to desalinize water, all of which to desalinize water will be impractical for the modern world’s increasing use of fresh water. To obtain fresh water for use in the scale of today’s advanced usage of water.

The desalination process involves the process called reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis is the process of desalinating water with use of forcing the salt to separate from the water. Separating the salt from the water involves the use of a semi-permeable membrane that will not allow the salt to flow through the membrane. During the reverse osmosis process, the semi permeable membrane will be placed on the middle of a dual compartment container, which is the most viable for a container ship. All these processes will only involve the most feasible ways to transfer the deep ocean water for commercial uses. Thus, in the end, the deep ocean water can now be utilized for use in the everyday lives of consumers. Instead of depleting the natural environment, the utilization of a resource that is infinite when processes in the most natural ways that will not harm the environment and the surroundings.

Before Hawaii became an exporting giant of deep ocean water, it had undergone the effects of the Arab oil embargo in 1974. To counter the effects of the embargo, Hawaii built a Natural Energy Laboratory near the Leeward shore in the big island to research the energy created when combining hot and cold water. The research was derived from Jacques-Arsène d’Arsonval in the 1880’s. The state had hoped to harness the steam by combining the cold deep water with the surface water to generate the steam, which will power the turbines of the power plant like that of a geothermal power plant. Unfortunately, the project was short lived in its early stages when it failed to produce substantial results.

The 2000 feet pipelines that were setup did not go to waste when the state noticed that commercial uses of the water can be done. The waters can be used to make pharmaceutical products, water for fish culture, breeding grounds for oysters and some other useful advancement. Eventually, the state thought of desalinizing the water for drinking and other purposes. This is where the start of the deep sea drinking water.

Since the start of the discovery of the deep ocean water that can be used for health and drinking purposes, the companies claimed that the water has a health and purification benefit. The water is derived from the deep ocean, which is harvested 2000 feet below the sea level. This water is said to be healthy because it contains the undisturbed nutrients of the deep ocean, which is undisturbed by the human activities for 1,250 years.

The Earth is consisted of 75% water, which most of the 75% is salty water located in the ocean. This water became salty due to the release of the soil’s or land’s salts, which are in a form of rock crystals found within the various areas of the land. These salts interact with the ocean to mix and form the salty waters of the ocean. Although animals and some sea creatures thrive within the deep sea, the water that has been surrounding the lands cannot be drank conventionally the same as the fresh water. A lot of industries have already been benefitting from what the sea/ocean water could offer. Now, the sea water can be drunk the same way as the fresh water but it needs to be desalinized to remove the salt within the water.

This deep sea water is situated in one of the Earth’s Great Ocean Conveyor Belt. This belt is where the current runs. The source of the purified deep sea water can be retrieved here because of the following reasons: (1) the water below 2000 feet is undisturbed by the human activities and industries. (2) The Great Conveyor Belt of the Earth is slow moving. (3) The water below the ocean is undisturbed for at least 1,250 years. And (4) its main water source is from the melted glaciers.

In Hawaii, since the ocean can be easily accessed through the shores, a ship can be dispatched to the deeper recesses of the ocean to harvest the deep ocean waters. These waters will then be purified and desalinated within the ocean. Upon the desalination of the sea water, the water will then be packaged within the bottle. The bottle contains the desalinated and purified water that came with the ship. There are times where the purified and desalinated water will not anymore go to the processing plant. The ship will only have to export the product to the other counties that demand the exquisite product.

Upon the exportation of the purified deep sea water, the ship will deliver the product to the processing center of the company that bought the product. Upon the processing of the product, the company has to bottle the water, ready for selling. All it takes after the bottling of the product is marketing, which is what the company needs to sell the product. After the product has been marketed, it will need to be distributed to the selling points like a grocery store or a beverage store. From this point, the end-user, or the consumer-buyer will be the end of the cycle of the product.

As the demand for bottled water and purified seawater only continues to grow, companies all over the world are trying to jump on the bandwagon. They spend thousands and millions, even more trying to develop the ultimate product that will lead them to the forefront of the desalinated deep seawater industry. As fate would have it, all the expensive R&D around, nature would seem to be the best invention to rely upon.

The deep sea drinking water that comes from off the Hawaii shores is typically gathered, processed, and bottled right in Kona. Kona is known for the waters off the coasts between one and five thousand feet below the surface belonging to the Global Conveyor Belt. There are a few choices places near any shore that can lay claim to being close to the Global Conveyor Belt, and this is part of what makes the water from Hawaii so choice. This water comes from glaciers that melted long ago, near the end of the ice age. The water sank thousands of feet below the surface and came into a current that traveled around the world at a very slow pace. Along the way, water picked up several minerals and nutrients from underwater volcanoes and vents. The extreme depth and strength of the current kept the chemicals and pollutants that effect so much surface water away from the deep seawater selected for desalinization and bottling off the shores of Hawaii.

As a series of island, much of Hawaii’s economy is based on the surrounding ocean waters. Therefore, a number of tools and transports or preexisting in Hawaii for any maritime venture. This helps keep down the cost of farming seawater for drinking down. One must never underestimate the value of a product’s psychological impact. This is why companies spend so much money enhancing a product’s image and advertising campaigns. Hawaii naturally engages the majority of men and women to think of a near tropic, always sunny lifestyle that they covet. Hawaii, after all, is a number one tourist destination for a reason. So, having any product from Hawaii helps to bring that feeling to the general populace. When someone takes a drink of Hawaii deep seawater, they are experiencing the thrill and joy of being in Hawaii, whether reliving a past vacation, or living a new one only in their mind.

With the lack of chemicals in Hawaii deep sea drinking water, and the natural mineral enrichment, Hawaii deep sea desalinated drinking water is always a winner. Add to that the mental aspect of Hawaii deep sea drinking water, and people want to be a part of it.

Savers Holdings LTD. Is a multi-national company, with its sales and administrative offices located in Korea and its manufacturing base here in Kona, Hawaii. One of the five companies to have permission to use the NELHA (National Energy Laboratory Hawaii Authority) label “100% Hawaii Deep Seawater,” Savers Holdings LTD. produces a variety of products with the desalinated deep seawater of Hawaii as the base. The water drawn for the desalinization process by Savers Holdings is naturally rich in minerals. This is because the water Savers Holdings uses comes from the Global Conveyor Belt with water that melted from glaciers thousands of years ago, at the end of the last ice age. The Global Conveyor Belt travels around the world, keeping the water at low depths and by a variety of underwater volcanoes and vents. This makes the water selected for the desalinating process ideal for health reasons, with both the lack of chemicals and pollutants and natural healthy additives.

Savers Holdings LTD. is the first multinational company to have secured the rights to produce “100% Hawaii Deep Seawater” from NELHA. Their bottling facility is a relatively new addition, added in the first part of 2008. The Savers Holdings LTD. bottling facility for desalinated deep sea drinking water is located on 6 acres of land on the shores of Kona, Hawaii. Bottled deep sea drinking water is not the only product made by Savers Holdings LTD. A number of secondary products have been derived from the desalinated seawater that help boost the sales of Savers Holdings LTD.

From the desalinization process, Savers Holdings LTD. is also able to provide salt, bittern, bottled functional water, and a variety of spa-related items. This multi-faceted operation is sure to secure a place in a solid future economy for Savers Holdings LTD. With the popularity of Hawaii and other deep sea desalinated drinking water products continuing to grow, Savers Holdings LTD. has managed to get itself in on the ground floor. This means that we will continue to see them grow, as the demand for their products grow around the globe, so will the company as a whole.
